Sharon asks…
HTML/SEO Gurus look here please, SEO question?
Ok, first of all this is NOT an attempt to spam my webpage….I’ve got legit ways of getting the word out besides this.
My question is, I don’t get ANY people finding my page now via google search results, while they did all the time 3-4 months ago.
The url is http://www.record-online-media.com
I’m new to html, can somebody check a few of the source codes and tell me if I might have TOO much html, or give any ideas as to why i dont see search results, etc, in google webmaster tools anymore? it’s hard to explain really….
If you need more details, let me know please.
Jeff

Your site traffic/rank details:
=====================
Google PR – 3, this is good
Alexa rank – 10,348,302, this means you have hardly 10 or 15 visitors per day!
Link popularity (from submitexpress) – 118, pathetic – you need to build more links by advertising or backlinking from other sites.
Site analysis
==========
Keywords – 10, Right size but not carefully selected. Do a search on Google for ‘record youtube’ and see the first five sites coming up there. Check their HTML and steal those keyworkds. Ideally they should be something like ‘youtube, you tube, record, catputre…etc’
Description – meta description could be better and long – this get displayed in search pages
robots – need to put ‘follow, all’ in HTML
sitemap.xml – you have an updated sitemap, which is good
robot.txt – there’s no robot.txt in the root folder? This is very important
Analytics
=======
Your Google Analytics version is outdated (urchin based). Use the new ga and put it just before tag
Overall your site need some improvement (The banner especially, looks like it’s done by an amateur)

Internet Marketing Course in Singapore?
Anybody knows a legitimate internet marketing course in sg? Hoping to enroll in a reputable school. My knowledge in SEO, web design, Google Analytics, webmaster tools and all are quite all over places, I need a systematized way on how to do it thus I want to enroll in a legitimate course in SG.
Thanks for suggesting an affordable and reputable one!

I think traditional educational institutions are not up to date on SEO, at least the SEO that works today, and if you know anything about search engine marketing, you know that this field changes very very quickly. So my personal advice would be to stay away from universities offering SEO courses. Perhaps you can take a college course on web design, but not on SEO.
As far as SEO education goes, look for online courses offered by highly reputable SEO experts. One of the best ones is Aaron Wall and his training course on SEObook.com. They aren’t free but quality, up-to-date information on search industry is guaranteed.
Alternatively, you can read up on SEO for free on Google Webmaster Central and on guides like SEO in Practice. I am not going to leave you any links to avoid spam – all those sources will be on the first page of Google.

George asks…
What is better? WWW vs HTTP?
Please determine whether it is optimal to use the WWW or HTTP URL structure. What is better? In addition, please note that this question is designed to help me resolve issues that may be affecting my rank in search engines for SEO (search engine optimization).
Google thinks I have duplicate versions of all my content pages because I did not redirect all HTTP pages to the complete WWW.
Example:
http://www.omnivisiondesign.com VS http://omnivisiondesign.com
Same page, but one can be accessed with the WWW, and the other without.
This causes Google confusion, thinking that there may be 2 respective pages featuring the same content, which goes against their algorithms. In reality, there is only one page, but the page can be accessed with or without the WWW in the URL.
How can I easily specify in Google Webmaster tools that my main URL structure is http://www. rather than simply http://
I would really like to avoid duplicate content infringement…
My host does not allow me to use HT ACCESS so I can’t simply do 301′s right now… I will switch eventually… I am hoping there is a way to do this using Google Webmaster Tools, or other.
Any quick suggestions?
What are my options without being able to modify the HT ACCESS file for now?
WWW vs HTTP: 301 Redirects (Mod Rewrite), Google Parameters, HT Access, Canonical URL…

admin answers:
I don’t think it is possible without 301 redirect. Google webmaster could help you if your site were new one but in your case its not possible. The only way to solve this problem is to put a redirection to your main URL. After this you can promote your actual URL and it will take a little time to resolve.

Question regarding no. of Backlinks?
I am a newbie in SEO, have recently created a blog, and there is something that kept me from sleeping well last night. I hope someone can help me with some advice.
I checked the no. of backlinks with Google Webmaster Tools (to my site), which was updated yesterday, and it showed about 1150, while with Yahoo Tools, I got about 2780 backlinks, why is the difference so big?
However, what I’m more worried about is another aspect: when I look at the first 1000 backlinks from Yahoo, almost all of them originate from a single site (www.somerandomsite.com/..), is that normal? Because it seems particularly strange to me.
Oh, and does anybody know how often Yahoo updates the backlinks? I see almost everyday some minor changes happening, but they’re so small that I can’t believe they’ve updated; for example I’ve done some social networking (or how it’s called), and got several hundreds backlinks from sites like alexa/whois and so on, but the no. of backlinks only increased by a few.. why is that?
I know I’ve asked quite a lot of questions, and I apologize, but as I said I’m a beginner in this field and I’m quite uncertain whether it will all work out through hard work, cause experience I don’t really have.
Thanks a lot and I look forward to some replies.

There’s nothing to worry about. Yahoo always indexes more pages than Google.. That’s something we can’t do much about.
Just focus on building quality backlinks and internal pages for your site.. Even when you ping the SE bots Google will still index less pages.

Daniel asks…
How Local SEO works…………….?
I am aware of few factors of local SEO. These are:-
1. Server Ip
2. Domain name suffix, for examle .com.bd or .com.au etc
3. Setting the targeted country from Google‘s webmaster‘s tool.
What else should populate my list. Please help me complete this list. Also let me know, if any of the above is wrong.

How about consider niche marketing. For local businesses, be sure your keywords (both in your content and in the Meta Tags) include local cities and towns. When some one types in “Used cars” in the search box it will return thousands of results. When they narrow it down to “Used cars ‘YourTown’”, you want your web site to be high in the listings. There are a couple of web pages which speak to this issue better than I can. You can click the links below.
